POLITICAL and business chiefs across East Lancashire were united in their backing for the Supporting Our Businesses campaign.

There was a feeling that at a time of such economic hardship it was vital that firms were given a fighting chance when it came to getting themselves out of the down-turn.

Jack Straw, Blackburn MP

“The Lancashire Telegraph campaign is vitally important.

"It remains a truth that too many business people freeze when faced with difficulties and getting them to ask for help early is a must.”

Gordon Birtwistle, Burnley council leader

“I welcome this campaign wholeheartedly. Anything that can be done to help business across East Lancashire should be welcomed with open arms.”

Clitheroe Chamber of Trade president Nigel Pratt

“It must be the kind of support that has positive benefits.”

Tony Garner, managing director of East Lancashire PR firm Viva and president of Rawtenstall Chamber of Commerce

“We are delighted to hear about this campaign — anything that can help businesses start, survive and thrive is welcome news at any time, but especially so right now.

"Business is the lifeblood of our society."

David Cottam, president of Blackburn Chamber of Trade

“Anything to point people in the right direction has to be welcomed.

"Often, businesses don’t know where to turn and help such as this is essential.”

John Williams, Blackburn Rovers chairman

“As a town club we are at the centre of the community and have worked hard to support local business and opened the Enterprise Centre at Ewood Park last year.

“The Lancashire Telegraph campaign is offering further support to businesses under strain.”

“This campaign is very positive and will be a tremendous help for firms in the area.

"It is another vital boost to the economy.”
