A ONE-off song and dance extravaganza will be entry by ‘meal ticket’ only to collect vital foodbank supplies.
Reedley Live is being held at the Colne Muni this weekend, organised by teenagers from Reedley Cottages care centre.
The children, who suffer with disabilities and use the Colne Road centre for respite, are asking the audience to bring a donation of non-perishible food for the Community Solutions foodbank, instead of buying a ticket.
The Lancashire Telegraph launched a campaign to urge readers to support local foodbanks after the shocking extent of food poverty was revealed.
The youngsters, aged between 12 and 17, have been studying for a Mencap Gateway award — an activity award available to people with learning disabilities which encourages them to gain new skills and become more independent.
Ami Thompson, who has been guiding the children through their studies at Reedley Cottages, said: “As part of the award, they have to organise and plan an event and we’ve all worked really hard to put this show together.
“There has been so much in the media about food poverty that we thought it would be a good idea for people to bring food for the needy, instead of collecting money.
“Calico Housing has already promised us a donation and we hope that 200 or 300 people will turn up and leave donations on the door so we think we should be able to collect a really substantial amount.”
Saturday’s show will feature performances from indie band Binary law, street dancers Kian's Krew, medieval re-enactment group, The Knights of Pendle, solo guitarist Blue and many more live acts.
Fun begins at 1pm and tickets can be collected from Vanity Beauty in St James Row, Burnley in exchange for food on the day.
