BLACKBURN Sunday League fixture secretary, Bill Maynard, said he has never known a season so severely disrupted by the weather.
It has been a season to forget for the long-running league which suffered a further setback when Whinney Hill announced they were withdrawing due to not being able to field a team.
“In all my years being involved in the Blackburn Sunday Football league, I have never known a season like this,” said Maynard. “However, the league management committee are focused on completing the season and starting a programme to help bring this great league back to its full capacity."
“We are so sorry to all teams involved but these are circumstances beyond our control. We have always tried to help these clubs but unfortunately they have made their decision and Whinney Hill’s record has now been expunged.”
There was a reduced programme on Easter Sunday and although there were only seven games played, there was no shortage of goals.
Whinney Hill Colts continued their quest for the Division Two title with a 4-2 home win over The Anchor while Craven Heifer kept up their promotion chase with an emphatic 5-0 over Brownhill.
Stanhill WMC stay in contention with a hard fought 2-1 win at Oswaldtwistle Immanuel but Hare & Hounds’ challenge was dealt a blow as they went down 3-2 to fellow promotion hopefuls Park FC. Stanley Ultras had a 2-0 win over Helmshore Harriers.
In Division Three, Rosehill were crowned champions despite losing their 100-per-cent record as they went down 4-2 to promotion hopefuls Brown Cow Olympic in a game of football that was a credit to both teams and the standard of the division.
The win moves Brown Cow Olympic to within one point of Ewood Blues in second place and these two clash in what could be a promotion decider on Sunday, April 17. Sunnybank got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over The Crown.
On Sunday, the first of the Blue & White Rose Bowl semi finals takes place when Station take on Mill Hill at Pleasington while Intack and Clifton meet in the second semi final the following week.
