Garry Flitcroft, the former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers Premier League midfield star, is Chorley's new manager.
Chairman Ken Wright broke the news after returning from holiday on Monday.
He said: "We feel it is a sound appointment and we're delighted that we have managed to get him.
"Garry has a fine footballing pedigree and in the short time he has been involved in non-league football he has had success with Leigh Genesis, taking them to within three points of the play-offs in his first season in charge."
The Magpies chairman said that under Steve Waywell's management he had wanted the team to show improvement on the previous year.
There had been a period of time when they were well placed in the UniBond First Division North, but disappointing results brought only two points from the last eight matches and the team finished 17th.
"I appreciate the hard work that Steve Waywell and Lol McMahon put in, but my job as chairman is to act in the best interests of the club," he added.
