DANNY Ings is set to complete a move to Liverpool once his contract expires in July.

The Clarets’ top scorer is nearing the last of his four-year deal and Burnley’s attempts at keeping him for longer have come to nothing.

Ings, who has so far scored 10 goals in his first Premier League season, has been a target for a number of clubs in England and overseas.

Earlier this year he flew out to Spain to hold talks with David Moyes at Real Sociedad.

The England-Under 21 international has also been linked with teams in Germany’s Bundesliga, while in the Premier League Manchester United emerged as a contender for his signature after he lit up Old Trafford with a goalscoring performance, albeit in a 3-1 defeat for Burnley.

But Liverpool is understood to be Ings’ preferred destination.

That would be some consolation to Burnley, who would expect to achieve somewhere in the region of £4million in compensation if the striker stayed in England.

That figure would be significantly reduced to £206,00 under FIFA rules by a move abroad.
