LANCASHIRE League champions Lowerhouse are turning into a female cricket production line with a host of their juniors winning Lancashire call-ups.

And the latest girl to be honoured is one of the youngest to claim a place in the Red Rose U11 set-up.

Nine-year-old Liberty Heap-Gibbons, daughter of Lowerhouse opener Ben Heap, only started playing the game in the last year but has been picked in the U11 squad and can have three seasons at that level.

It’s a remarkable achievement and Lowerhouse cricket manager Stan Heaton said: “Liberty has been taught well at home by Ben and has only been at the club for one season and she is one of the most technically correct nine-year-olds I’ve ever seen.”

Maddy White and Hannah Till have recently returned from a five county U19 competition in Dubai and they are both ahead of schedule with all-rounder White an U16 and wicketkeeper and opener Till an U17.

At under 15 level, Lowerhouse have three girls in the Lancashire set-up.

Jessica Nixon is a fast bowler in the U15s, while U14 all-rounder Georgia Clough has been a county player for a number of years and has been selected a year ahead as an U14.

Having only broken into the county under 13s last season Becky Jo Gorton has been selected a year early. Gorton is relatively new to cricket but is a good quick bowler. She is the granddaughter of local league legend Steve Gee.

Another wicketkeeper Georgie Holt has been selected for the U13s.

Heaton added: “The girls are excellent cricketers for their age.

“In all cases they are the equal if not better than most of the boys in their age groups. We look forward to assisting their progress within our junior section and indeed the seniors.

“The girls also have the outlet of women’s cricket with Read where we send the girls once they are ready for senior teams. ”
