MICHAEL Laudrup was the 'mystery man' John Williams went to interview for the Blackburn manager's job earlier this week, according to reports emanating from Denmark.

Williams apparently met with the former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus striker in Switzerland on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of the Dane succeeding Mark Hughes in the Ewood Park hot-seat.

The former Brondby and Getafe manager is thought to be interested in the role, but the MK Dons manager Paul Ince remains the bookies' favourite to replace Hughes, although the fact he does not have a UEFA Pro Licence could still prove to be a stumbling block.

If Ince drops out of the running then Laudrup is waiting in the wings, after his agent, Bayram Tutumlu, confirmed the Dane had talks with Williams in Zurich on Tuesday.

"We spoke with the Blackburn chairman and vice chairman on Tuesday in Zurich and the talks went well," said Tutumlu.

"Michael has a lot of offers for work at the moment and at first was not convinced about the prospect of managing Blackburn Rovers.

"But we were very impressed with John Williams and his assistant, they were very professional and we liked what they had to say about their club.

"After speaking to them, Michael would certainly be interested in the job.

"They were seventh in the Premier League and have a good future.

"They certainly gave Michael something to think about, and we are now waiting to hear what Blackburn want to do about their next manager."

Laudrup has an impressive track record on the continent, having led Brondby to a league and cup double in 2005.

More recently, he was the manager of La Liga side Getafe, who reached the Spanish Cup final, and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, under his leadership last season.

Rovers are still hopeful they will be able to appoint a new manager by the end of the weekend.
