ACCRINGTON Stanley were knocked out of the League Cup this afternoon after defeat in their first round tie at League One side Carlisle United.
Matty Robson scored the only goal in the 39th minute at Brunton Park, in a game being played seven days before Stanley's League Two opener at Southend United.
The Reds were without Dean Winnard because of injury but handed debuts to Aidan Chippendale, George Miller, Luke Clark and Karl Sheppard.
Forward Adam Dawson came off the bench in the second half after finalising a loan move from Wigan hours before the game, while Tom Eckersley also made his debut as a substitute.
Stanley: Ian Dunbavin, Craig Lindfield, Toto Nsiala (Tom Eckersley 77), Peter Murphy, Michael Liddle, Luke Joyce, George Miller, Charlie Barnett (Will Hatfield 56), Luke Clark (Adam Dawson 70), Aidan Chippendale, Karl Sheppard. Subs not used: Andrew Dawber, Lee Molyneux, Bohan Dixon, James Gray.
