ACCRINGTON Stanley defender Danny Coid has been ruled out for the rest of the season and is likely to face a lengthy lay-off after scans showed that he damaged cruciate ligaments in Saturday’s loss at Dagenham and Redbridge.
The 30-year-old former Blackpool stalwart was forced off with the knee injury at the weekend and, although the length of his absence has not yet been determined, he will not play for Stanley again before the expiry of his current one-year contract in the summer - seemingly throwing his future into doubt.
“Danny is not great, it’s a 90 per cent tear of his cruciate ligament,” said Reds boss Paul Cook.
“He’s out for the season for sure.”
The Reds were yesterday awaiting news from Wigan regarding on-loan defender Rob Kiernan, although he is also expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing ankle ligaments in the same game. Dean Winnard underwent a scheduled ankle operation on Wednesday.
Cook is keen to add Les Parry to the club’s backroom staff after the 54-year-old was recently sacked as Tranmere boss.
Parry still has loose ends to tie up over his exit from the League One club but could also double up as a physio - the role he held at Tranmere before being promoted to the managerial position.
Stanley physio Joe Hinnigan recently followed John Coleman to Rochdale.
