Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Mark Bunn believes there is a determination among the squad to repay the faith shown in them by under fire boss Steve Kean.
The former Northampton stopper starred in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Anfield in his first Premier League start of the season and believes the point can spark their campaign into life.
Bunn, 27, was part of a relatively inexperienced Premier League side on Merseyside, with three of Rovers four defenders in front of him 20 years of age or younger.
With Rovers’ number one Paul Robinson still missing for Saturday’s daunting trip to Old Trafford with a calf injury, Bunn will continue between the posts and insists there is a real desire to help their beleagured boss.
Kean’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty with club matriarch Anuradha Desai yet to be convinced by her advisors that his managerial reign at Ewood should be ended.
Bunn said: “There is definitely togetherness. We have been together all season and obviously we have not been getting the results we would like but we are behind Steve Kean.
“He has given most of us our chance and we have to start repaying him and moving up the league. It is hard when you change your back line as often as we have but the young lads have come in and done really well. We can only take that as a positive that the young lads are doing well.
“It was great to get the final result and that can only give us confidence for the next game. Adam Henley’s clearance off the line was a massive clearance and we are just delighted to get the point.
“The point can help for confidence for the rest of the season.”
Rovers travel to Old Trafford on New Years Eve still bottom of the Premier League after picking up just two wins all season, with Kean only guiding Rovers to seven wins in his 39 league games in charge.
Bunn though insists the pressure is off a little bit as they travel to Premier League champions with the majority writing them off with regards picking up a result.
“Old Trafford is another massive game for us and another big game,” said Bunn. “We just have to dig deep again and hopefully get a result from it.
“It is going to be another massive game but if we defend like we did on Monday hopefully we can limit their chances and get something.
“Going to a place like Anfield, you don’t get many results so you don’t feel pressure in games like this. We are just delighted to get something from it.
“I knew I would have to have a good game because I knew I would be busy but we limited them to not many chances.”
Meanwhile Kean, who is understood to be closing in on Fulham striker Andy Johnson, believes Rovers will approach Saturday’s clash in the same manner as they travelled to Liverpool Kean said: “It gives us confidence we can come to places like this, we are a young side, and get a result. It gives us the confidence to build on.
“It is never easy but there are two ways to look at it. You can either be scared or look at is an opportunity like we did at Anfield. I said that to the lads, I said ‘don’t leave any regrets in the dressing room’.
“I said ‘this is a great venue where over the years there has been some unbelievable football played on it. So go out and have the courage to play’.”
Meanwhile Blackburn Rovers have appointed former FA employee Andrew Penn as their project development manager and he will start in his role in the new year.
