Rossendale Raptors have signed former Manchester Giants star Stephen Gayle.
The seasoned professional, who also had spells with Manchester Magic and Worthing Thunder and most recently played for Chester Jets in the British Basketball League.
He has also represented his country.
Gayle impressed in his debut against Tees Valley Mohawks, scoring 37 points as the Raptors cruised to a 104-62 victory – their first victory since promotion to he National League.
He also added nine assists, six steals and five rebounds as he led the Raptors to their opening league win of the season. Angelo Kornecki supported Gayle with 16 points on his birthday, and the Raptors schools coach Steven Graham also added 16 points of his own.
The Raptors who are sponsored by property agents Sanderson Weatherall LLP, have been applauded for their professionalism – something that attracted Gayle to the club.
He said: The Raptors are a well organised and well run club who do a lot for the local community which is something that is really important for the game. Great things are going to happen here – and I’m excited to be a part of it and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Club chairman Ken Masser added: “We’re delighted that Stephen has come on board. He's obviously a terrific player who will make a huge difference to us.”
