BURNLEY have said the offer for Danny Fox, who has joined Southampton today, was 'too good to turn down'.
The left-back departed Turf Moor in a £1.8million transfer to the big-spending Saints.
Fox joins Chris Eagles, Tyrone Mears and Chris Iwelumo in being sold by Burnley in recent weeks.
Incoming transfers have seen winger Keith Treacy and goalkeeper Jon Stewart join on permanent deals, while defenders Ben Mee and Kieran Trippier have joined on loan.
A Clarets statement said: "In the case of Danny Fox, as with other summer departures, the offer the club received was one that the Board could not refuse.
"There have been instances throughout the summer where Burnley Football Club has rejected major offers for other senior players.
"We will only sell when we feel the fee exceeds our own valuation and where we feel we can invest that capital in promising young players that will be given the opportunity to develop at Burnley Football Club; a policy that allows us to remain ambitious.
"Each decision we make enables us to follow through our carefully thought-out plan to support Eddie Howe over the next few years."
