SHREWSBURY Town yesterday confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Accrington Stanley star Terry Gornell – a week after the striker had revealed his delight at signing for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Gornell was out of contract and had been offered a two-year deal to stay at Stanley, but has joined Joe Jacobson at fellow League Two club Shrewsbury.
The 21-year-old was announced as an Inverness player last week but the SPL side swiftly retracted the statement. Gornell had said: “I had enjoyed my time at Accrington but felt it was time to move on and I had other options in England.
“But when I spoke to Terry Butcher I was soon attracted to crossing the border and I’m looking forward to trying to make an impact for the Caley Thistle fans.”
Gornell later left Scotland without signing and Inverness’ limited funds were thought to be a potential stumbling block, with Stanley due a fee but Caley boss Butcher initially believing he could move for free.
Shrewsbury are now in negotiations to agree a fee with Stanley and avoid a tribunal.
