ACCRINGTON Stanley’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Stockport County has been postponed as they wait to find out whether they will be kicked out of the competition.
Stanley were drawn at home to Stockport in the second round, with the tie due to be played on October 5, but the game has been delayed after the Reds fielded the ineligible Ray Putterill in the first round win at Tranmere.
The FA have charged both Stanley and Putterill but have not yet announced dates for their hearings, with investigations ongoing.
If found guilty, Stanley could yet escape with a fine but other possibilities include ordering a rematch of the first round game at Tranmere or kicking the Reds out of the competition. That could result in a bye for Stockport, or Tranmere going into the second round.
Putterill scored at Tranmere a day after he was due to start a suspension for allegedly swearing at a referee following a non-league match for Halewood last season.
