ACCRINGTON Stanley could face an uncomfortable transfer window after League Two player of the month Michael Symes revealed he has no intention of signing a new deal before the end of the month.
Symes and fellow star striker Bobby Grant are out of contract at Stanley in the summer but both have been offered new deals in a bid to stave off interest from rival clubs.
The play-off chasing Reds are keen to keep their squad together during January but 26-year-old Symes can leave for nothing in the summer under the Bosman ruling.
And Stanley’s hopes of tying up new contracts for both players this week appear to have been scuppreed after Symes said he wanted to wait and see if interest develops elsewhere.
“I’m happy to sign, but I’m just going to wait until the end of January and see what happens,” he said.
“I’ve been aware of the interest, although it’s just speculation. I’m just going to keep my options open for now before deciding.”
Symes was yesterday announced as the PFA fans’ League Two player of the motnh for December after finishing ahead of Bourmenouth’s Brett Pitman, Notts County’s Lee Hughes and Morecambe’s Phil Jevons in a supporters poll.
Heys said: “Both Michael and Bobby have been fantastic for us this season. We hope both deals can be concluded over the next few days.”
