I know Owen Coyle will spend any money he gets wisely in January, but I don’t think they should go mad.

I wouldn’t want to see the club end up like Newcastle if things go wrong, having to get rid of players to get money in.

It is hard to say how much they should spend in the transfer window because our budget isn’t massive.

If we do stay up, maybe they would look to strengthen with two or three players in the summer, but we will have to wait and see what the situation is when that comes around.

I think the fans do understand that the club don’t have a lot of money to spend but, having said that, I do think they will strengthen a little in January.

I still think they might maybe look at strengthening the defence a little, but it’s hard to say what else because they do have Martin Paterson, Chris McCann and Jay Rodriguez coming back.

They all made an impact last season, but then again in the Premier League you do need a big squad.

Owen has been very shrewd with his signings. Burnley have never had a massive budget, but what he has spent he has spent wisely.

That is a great thing to know for the board when they are deciding how much money to give him. Owen’s summer signings have done well and, although one or two haven’t been first choice, I think he brought players in with the future in mind.

And two of the summer buys, Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher, have been among the best players this season.

Tyrone has been like an extra forward at times with the way he gets forward from right back.

Owen has talked about maybe trying to sign David Nugent permanently in January and I would try to do that.

It is just whether in terms of wages it can be done.

Every time he comes on he does make a difference and lifts the crowd, and I’d maybe like to see him playing alongside Steven Fletcher.

I don’t know whether a deal can be done because it won’t be cheap, but I would be in favour of it.

I just hope the wages aren’t a stumbling block.

As for other players who have impressed this season, a lot of them have done well and Robbie Blake started the season on fire.

Chris Eagles looks like he has a lot of confidence now, too.

I thought he did well against Fulham on Saturday, when I felt Burnley deserved the 1-1 draw.

Apart from the defeat to Wigan, they hadn’t really been behind at home before this season, so it was good to see them come from behind and get a result.
