Jon Dahl Tomasson said he was ‘extremely proud’ of his players as they chalked up a fourth successive Championship win.

Harry Pickering’s first goal since November 2021 proved to be the difference between the sides at Ewood Park, though Rovers were fully deserving of the three points.

They hit the woodwork in either half and stormed out of the blocks in the second half when they took charge of the contest.

Rovers limited the Blades to very little, having battled through their set play threat, and claimed a fifth successive clean sheet at Ewood Park where they have now picked up 37 points from a possible 51.

“I am extremely proud of the way we coped with a top team in the league and I am pleased with a deserved win. We hit the woodwork twice as well,” Tomasson said.

“We know playing Sheffield United they have a lot of PL experience and a big difference in budget. We dealt with the physical part of the game really well.

“We created some good moments with good play.

“Second half was brilliant. We scored a brilliant goal, Harry scored and he was surprised he scored! We played some good football.

“The atmosphere at Ewood was brilliant and we will need the fans for the rest of the season when we are playing at home. I am delighted with the win.”

Rovers signed off February with three successive league wins, as well as moving into the FA Cup quarter finals. They started March in fine fashion with three points against the Blades that temporarily moved them up to third in the table.

It's been a great week. Playing at Leicester, a Premier League side and being dominant, we should have won it bigger. Then winning against Sheffield United who are a top team in our league,” Tomasson added.

“We are in an excellent position. We know we are not favourites to go up or favourites to be in the play-offs.

“We will chase it but in this great league, you can lose the next game as well. It's a brilliant and tough league. It's probably the most intense league in the world. There are lots of good team.

“We won't be disappointed if we don't get it, I am realistic. I am ambitious and we want to win every game but it's not always positive.”

It is now 12 games unbeaten for Rovers who have lost just once in 2023 to cement their spot in the top six.

I am enjoying the journey we have been on so far. 2022 we were very inconsistent and then in 2023 we have been very consistent,” the head coach said.

“It's great to see the spirit we have created. It's brilliant to see the development and the style of football. A big credit to the lads who are committed to the journey.”
