Jon Dahl Tomasson felt Rovers failed to make the most of their opportunities as they were held to a goalless draw by Wigan Athletic.

Rovers have now only scored 31 times in 29 games and missed the chance to move back into the play-off spots after Monday night’s goalless draw at Ewood Park.

Ben Brereton had Rovers’ best chance after four minutes, only to be denied by Ben Amos, who also denied debutant Sorba Thomas just before half time.

They failed to make the most of their territory and managed only three shots on target across the 90 minutes.

“We knew it would be a tough game. Wigan are fighting for their lives with a new manager,” Tomasson said.

“Despite that, we created the best moments and the best chance in the game.

“I am disappointed we didn't take those moments. We had plenty of crosses and plenty of opportunities with crosses where we should do better with the opportunities as well.

“You must score goals to win games.

“Out of possession, we were very solid and didn't give moments away. We are disappointed but we can be happy with the clean sheet.

“To win games, you must score goals.

“I think we created the better chances, the better opportunities.

“We got a lot of crosses in where we must be more alert. If you look at the performance, it was solid. We just needed a goal.”

Thomas made his debut after joining on loan from Huddersfield Town which proved to be the club’s only incoming of the month.

“Two players went out, a winger and a striker, we got a winger in but no striker,” Tomasson said after handing Thomas his debut.

“We can't change things now.

“When a winger and a striker goes out, we needed more in. Watford got 8 in, Wigan got 6 in.”

Brereton still hasn’t scored since the World Cup break and had Rovers’ best chance of the night four minutes in when played through by Bradley Dak.

However, Amos was equal to his effort on what proved to be another frustrating night for the Chile international.

“It's not only Ben, we know scoring is extremely difficult,” Tomasson added.

“Ben a couple of months ago would score there, it would be top corner. At the moment it isn't the top corner.

“He is having chances which is important and we had other opportunities.

“Maybe we could have had a penalty.

“We must be more clinical first of all. I couldn't see it from my angle but there was definitely contact.”

A positive for Rovers was a clean sheet for Aynsley Pears on his first league appearance in 14 months.
