Having spoken about the positives of a nearly full-fit squad at this time of year just a week ago the Rovers squad is starting to creak.

That’s no surprise to boss Tony Mowbray whose side are in the midst of a packed run of fixtures, but not something he is overly concerned with.

Ryan Nyambe became the latest man to add his name to the casualty list, with Rovers assessing the extent of the injury that forced him off with 20 minutes to go against Birmingham.

Manchester City loanee Tosin Adarabioyo has missed the last two matches with injury, while Corry Evans picked up a knock against Wigan and missed the Boxing Day game.

While Derrick Williams has returned from a calf problem to feature in the last two matches, Rovers will have to make do without the services of talisman Bradley Dack who has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Elliott Bennett started in midfield against Birmingham, but may well be needed at right back at Huddersfield, while Amari’i Bell’s error for the penalty could see Stewart Downing return at left back.

“I don’t think so. I think we’re doing okay for numbers,” Mowbray said.

“We need to get Adarabioyo back and see what Nyambe has done.

“Maybe it’s the time of year. We have five games in 13 days but I don’t want to stand here and moan, it’s Christmas, it’s English football, we have to do it.

“Yet these players aren’t robots, they can’t keep churning out every two days and playing football at the tempo we want.

“As a manager you rotate them around but it might not be as fluent as if you played the same XI week in, week out.

“That has to be accepted. Nyambe has been playing every game and there he is coming off injured.  That’s no surprise that they break down in the end.

“Let’s keep going, we have three more games coming up.”

Dominic Samuel was included in the matchday squad for the first time since October as Rovers options became stretched.

But Mowbray admits he could be able to call upon the services of defender Adarabioyo and midfielder Evans should they come through training unscathed ahead of the trip to west Yorkshire for Rovers’ final game of 2019.

He added: “If they train on either of those days then they will have a chance, if they don’t then they won’t. We’ll wait and see.”
