Tony Mowbray admitted ‘we’re all disappointed’ as Rovers dropped four points in the space of three days at Ewood Park.

Rovers were held by a Wigan Athletic side who went in to Monday’s game bottom of the league, while Birmingham City were on the back of three successive defeats before earning a share of the spoils on Boxing Day.

Mowbray’s men had won four consecutive home matches prior to this week, and while they extended their unbeaten run to eight matches, they couldn’t close the gap to the top six.

And the manager said that left a sense of frustration in the dressing room as they failed to build on Adam Armstrong’s sixth goal of the season that handed them a second half lead.

“We’re all disappointed, I know that, the team know that. Two draws isn’t what we were looking for no matter who you play. But no team in this division lays down for you,” Mowbray said.

“Wigan arrived bottom of the league, fighting for their lives, and have now drawn four games in a row. Birmingham’s last game at Hull they were beaten 3-0 so will have wanted to try and put that right.

“Ultimately we didn’t have enough quality to break them down and create as many chances as we would have liked to try and win the game.”

Rovers hit the woodwork in both games, Danny Graham going close to breaking the deadlock against Wigan, while Derrick Williams saw a header flick the bar in the dying stages against Birmingham as they went in search of a win.

Mowbray felt his side, who had kept four clean sheets in six prior to Boxing Day, would have been able to hold out after taking a 55th minute lead from the penalty spot.

But an error of judgement from Amari’i Bell allowed the visitors back in to the game, with Kevin Mrabti smashing his spot-kick down the middle as the scoring ended just after the hour mark.

“We hit the bar in both games and we could be sitting here with six points instead of two,” Mowbray said.

“Defensively we’re looking better, looking tighter, the penalty we gave away was unnecessary. That’s football.

“We didn’t concede lots of chances, I wasn’t sat there thinking ‘they're going to score’.

“But it was difficult for us to create chances as well. It was a really tight game.”
