Rovers are closing in on the loan signing of Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer.
The 21-year-old will add another attacking option to Tony Mowbray’s squad as they prepare for their return to the Championship.
Palmer is experienced in the second tier, having spent the last two seasons with Huddersfield Town and Derby County respectively.
Able to play across the attacking midfield positions, Palmer will be a welcome boost to Rovers who have made just two midfield signings to the squad promoted from League One.
Mowbray has made no secret of his desire to strengthen in attack, with at least three new signings expected before the transfer windows close next month.
He will also help alleviate some of the pressure on League One player of the year Bradley Dack.
A deal for a Manchester City youngster has been held up after he travelled with Pep Guardiola’s squad to their pre-season tour of America which finished on Sunday.
But Rovers are still looking to pursue that deal despite looking to tie up a six-month loan deal for Palmer which could be agreed before the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Palmer helped Huddersfield to promotion in 2016/17, scoring at Ewood Park in December 2016, and spent the first half of last season with the Terriers, featuring four times in the Premier League.
He finished the 2017/18 season at Derby, as they missed out in the play-offs, playing 16 times in all.
Palmer is yet to feature for Chelsea’s first-team but is highly rated at Stamford Bridge having signed a new four-year deal with the club in 2017.
Rovers have until August 9 to make permanent signings, with the loan window open until August 31.
Mowbray’s men make their return to the Championship at Ipswich Town on August 4, and round off their pre-season matches with a trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
