EUROPEAN football might be a new experience for a lot of this Clarets squad, but Chris Wood has been there and got the t-shirt.
The striker already has two goals in the competition to his name and he's hoping 'there's a lot more to come' as Burnley prepare for their own European adventure.
Wood was a 19-year-old when he went on loan to Birmingham City the year after they had lifted the League Cup but been relegated from the Premier League.
Combining the Championship and the Europa League proved no major obstacle for the Blues though, who cruised past Nacional of Portugal in the play-off round and finished third in a group containing Braga, Club Brugge and Maribor with 10 points.
Wood scored at St Andrew's against Nacional and then a winner in the 10th minute of stoppage time away at Club Brugge.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph at Burnley's training camp in Cork, Wood said: "I scored a couple in Europe, which was nice, and hopefully there’ll be a lot more to come.
"We got to the group stages and we did quite well in the group stages, which is nice. It’s a different feel to it, a lot more travelling, but it’s good fun and I’m sure the fans will enjoy themselves.
"For us players it’s just another game in a different location. We just treat it as another game.
"We want the fans to go and enjoy themselves and have loads of trips away around Europe, that would be fantastic.
"But we’ll go there and be professional and do the job."
Despite European commitments for eight games and the added grind of the Championship, the Blues were able to combine both for a fourth placed finish in the league.
Wood insists the added challenge of the Europa League for Burnley this season won't be too much of a struggle, given most of the squad have Championship experience behind them.
"It was fine, it was like the Championship in Saturday-Tuesday," Wood said of his European experience in 2011/12.
"Most of these boys have done it before and I don’t think it will be a problem.
"If you’re playing in the Premier League for so long it is tough because you don’t know what it’s like in the Championship, but in the Championship it’s normal, it’s gruelling in the Championship with 50 games a season, but the Europa League could take our tally up to that.
"It’s a different challenge, it’s going back to the grinding days, you don’t have time for your body to recover, you’re playing through niggles and at 80 or 90 per cent.
"I’m hoping the Championship experience in this squad will put us in good stead for that, we know what it’s about and how to recover quickly from games."
Burnley's own bid to reach the group stages begins in less than two weeks with a second qualifying round tie with Aberdeen, with the first leg at Pittodrie on Thursday, July 26 and the return a week later at Turf Moor.
"There’s no getting away from the fact Aberdeen are going to be strong, they’re going to be sharp and in good shape," said Wood.
"It’s going to be tough, it’s just one of the first challenges and hopefully we can overcome it."
