ACCRINGTON will not appeal Omar Beckles’ red card against Colchester United after manager John Coleman branded the process ‘a waste of time’.
The Stanley centre-half was dismissed for a tackle on Brennan Dickenson on the stoke of half-time, triggering a three-match ban.
The Reds will also be without Sean McConville and Janoi Donacien through suspension against Cambridge tonight. Of the Beckles incident, Coleman said: “We should appeal it hands down, it’s never a sending off in a million years and I’ve watched it 20 times, but you’d be wasting your time. It’s a futile exercise.
“We saw that with the Scott Brown one (at Cheltenham) when we were told by all the top officials to appeal it and we lost it.
“There’s no logic behind the appeals process, so you’re running the risk of getting an extra game and you are paying a lot of money for something that’s not even the toss of a coin any more. If this is making football better then I’d hate to see them make it worse.”
There’s better news on the injury front, with Terry Gornell fit enough to return to the bench on Saturday and midfielder Brown shrugging off a late niggle to face Colchester.
Coleman added: “Scotty Brown did well to come through the game on Saturday.“He was a doubt on Friday and to cover the ground is testament to the lad’s character.”
