ACCRINGTON Stanley new boy Luke Wall admits his former Blackburn Rovers teammate John O’Sullivan helped him convince to join the Reds.
Winger Wall has penned a one-year deal at the Wham Stadium with a one-year option after he was released by Rovers at the end of last season.
And the 19-year-old is looking forward to trying to make his mark with the Reds after O’Sullivan, who had an impressive loan spell with Stanley in 2014, recommended John Coleman’s side as the perfect place to develop his career.
“I spoke to Johnno (O’Sullivan) and he said what a good club it is,” said Wall.
“It’s important for me to play first team football now. It’s a lot more physical and will be more beneficial than playing Under 21 football.”
Wall could make his debut in this afternoon’s pre-season friendly with Stalybridge Celtic having impressed Coleman during a trial period at the Wham Stadium.
And the youngster, who hails from Liverpool, is hoping to impress the Stanley fans.
“I can play on either wing although I am primarily left-footed. Hopefully, if I get a chance, I can put plenty of crosses in,” he said.
“It’s good as well that there are a few Scousers to travel in with which has helped me settle in quickly.”
Wall, who featured regularly for Rovers Under-21s last season, admitted he was surprised to find out he had been released from Ewood Park after five years at the club.
He featured in a handful of pre-season matches for Rovers 12 months ago having signed a one-year professional deal last summer.
“I have played at Blackburn since I was Under 14s and signed a one-year professional contract,” added Wall.
“I played in pre-season and then played in the Under 21s.
“There were obviously quite a few changes at the club and quite a few of us got released at the end of last season and it was a bit unexpected.
“My agent got in touch with Accrington and I have been on trial and thankfully it’s a relief to get a contract sorted out.
Stanley’s game at Stalybridge this afternoon is a 3pm kick off.
