ACCRINGTON Stanley attacker Sean Maguire says he is relieved to have his short-term future resolved - and is determined to win back his place in the team, writes SAM ROBINSON.

The West Ham United loanee has extended his stay in East Lancashire until the end of the season having originally joined on a one-month loan deal back in September.

Now with the confirmation that he will be with Stanley until May, the striker is fully focused on helping the Reds enjoy a strong end to the League Two campaign.

“I’ve usually extended the loan on a month-to-month basis but to have it sorted and know that I’m here until the end of the season is great,” he said. “I’m really happy here with the boys.

"I feel like I’ve settled in and there is a real togetherness within the squad which was a big part in why I wanted to stay. I get on really well with the gaffer and Jimmy Bell, too, so I’m delighted.

“I’m really settled living with Josh Windass and George Bowerman in Blackburn. I’ve loved every minute of it up here.”

One of the major factors in helping the 20 year-old settle into his new surroundings was the contingent of Irish players at the club and Maguire is grateful to his fellow countrymen for their support.

“Everywhere you go there are always Irish boys around!” he laughed. “When I first came in, Shay McCartan helped me settle and since Seamus Conneely has been here, Shay and I have helped him. I lived with John O’Sullivan whilst he was here which helped a lot and we became great friends.”

Within a few weeks of his arrival, Maguire established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, but has had to settle for a place on the bench of late as his team-mates have taken seven points from the last three games following a run of five successive defeats.

He said: “It goes to show the strength of the squad we have here. We’ve got a squad of around 21 players and anyone can start each week. Nobody’s place is safe.

“I didn’t play too well against Bury and Northampton and deservedly got dropped. It’s hard to get back into the team because Josh Windass and Terry Gornell have been playing so well.

“I’m happy for the boys. We’re unbeaten in our last three games and hopefully we can carry that on.”
