CHRIS Taylor says he still has to pinch himself that he is playing and starring for Blackburn Rovers.

But the versatile midfielder knows he could quickly find himself out of the team if he does not continue his impressive form.

Taylor has not looked back since earning a recall by Rovers boss Gary Bowyer last month.

The 26-year-old was the man-of-the-match in the 1-0 home victory over Leeds United before producing another excellent display in the 0-0 draw at QPR.

Although Taylor is honest enough to admit that he was unable to scale the same heights in last Saturday’s 3-2 home win over his former club Millwall, it would come as a surprise if he did not line up for Rovers in today’s trip to Yeovil Town (3pm).

That would be no mean feat with players of the calibre of David Dunn and Ruben Rochina snapping away at his heels for a place in Bowyer’s starting XI.

Having waited patiently for his chance, down-to-earth Taylor is desperate to retain his place in the Rovers team for the long term.

As the former Oldham Athletic man would love to remain at Ewood Park after his two-year contract runs out.

“Since I’ve broken into the team I think I’ve done well and hopefully it’s my turn to stay in the team,” said Taylor, who turned down a new deal at Millwall and interest from other Championship clubs to sign for Rovers on a free transfer in the summer.

“You have to be at the top of your game or you’ll be out of the team as quickly as you get into it.

“I just want to keep improving my game for myself and for the club as I really want to have success here.

“I’m really loving it here and the more time goes on, the more I enjoy it.

“Obviously it takes time to get to know the place but I feel like I’m settling down, so it’s good.

“It’s a massive club. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I pinch myself how lucky I am to be at a club like this and I certainly don’t take it for granted.

“I don’t just want to be here for the length of my contract, I want to nail down a place here for a long time.

“That’s my ambition and to do that I have to keep working hard, keep improving my game, because if I don’t I’ll soon be out of the team.”

Today’s match is the first time Yeovil and Rovers have met in competitive action.

Taylor, however, knows all about the Glovers.

He played against them on 12 occasions, scoring once in a 1-1 draw at Huish Park in April 2011, during his League One days with his hometown club Oldham.

Yeovil won promotion last season and currently sit second-from-bottom in their debut campaign in the Championship.

But they go into this afternoon’s game on the back of a four-match unbeaten run.

“You should never underestimate any team, especially in this league, as you will get bitten,” warned Taylor, who made 285 appearances for Oldham before joining Millwall in May 2012.

“I know their place well, I’ve played there many a time, and it’s a tough place to go.

“They’ll be very direct and they’ll get the ball forward.

“But it’s a big chance for us to get another three points.”

Rovers are chasing back-to-back victories following the hard-fought success over Millwall.

Taylor found it ‘weird’ to be playing against his old team as he counts many of the current Lions crop as friends.

But in extremely difficult conditions, he was just glad to get the three points.

Taylor said: “We never really got in full gear, we know we could have done better, but sometimes you just need to do it ugly and the game against Millwall was definitely that.

“We’ve got some good players but on Saturday I think we showed another side of our game – that we can dig in, that we can grind it out and that we can battle and pick up three points when we’re not playing well.

“You can’t play well every week as this league is relentless.

“So if you want to go anywhere you need to win both ways.”
