MOVES to scrap a car parking spot at a Rishton store are likely to fail, it was revealed.
The Co-op, in Harwood Road, applied for permission to reduce the number of car parking spaces from 15 to 14.
But neighbours and the county council objected to the proposal, citing the impact on road safety and residents’ parking.
In a statement, Lancashire County Council said: “This site has a number of previously agreed planning permissions to which highway objections were raised.
“This includes the creation of the existing supermarket, and the development of the proposed dental surgery.
“It has been recognised on all previous occasions that parking available within the site is considerably below that required by [Hyndburn Council].
“However, the planning permissions were granted despite this lack of parking.”
Chief planning officer at Hyndburn Council, Simon Prideaux, recommended in a report, which will go before the planning committee on January 8, that the application be rejected.
He said: “The loss of parking provision at this site would have a detrimental impact on highway safety.”
