A RISHTON company has defended itself after complaints of queuing lorries outside its warehouse.

Parker Street resident Jackie Waring said Syropack, which provides polystyrene packaging and technical mouldings, was ‘stockpiling’ polystyrene in its yard, causing lorries to back up.

Coun Ken Moss confirmed a small number of complaints had been lodged with Rishton councillors.

But manager Mark Poulton said an incident earlier this month was isolated.

He said: “We had a problem one Monday morning earlier this month when one delivery firm had a problem, which caused a knock-on effect for other drivers.

“Christmas is our busiest period with boiler packaging and fish boxes being a large part of our business but generally speaking there have been no other problems with deliveries and wagons at the yard."

Youngsters in the town caused £8,000 of damage at the warehouse earlier this year.

Mr Poulton said that, after being caught, the children went to the factory.

He said: “I invited them them all along with the police to educate them about how they were harming their future careers by getting a criminal record, and showing them how many people from Rishton work here.

“They are endangering their own friend and family’s jobs by vandalising local businesses.

“Since then we have had no trouble.”
