A HOMEOWNER has said she won’t back down in her fight to get a disused mill in Rishton fully demolished.
York Mill was torn down last August, but its tall walls were left towering over Catherine Bailey’s Lord Street back yard.
Mrs Bailey, 46, said the building was so unsightly it has devalued her house.
Visits from representatives of the owner of the site EW Cartons and the leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Miles Parkinson, have left her no closer to a resolution.
She said: “It’s an eyesore. I'm not backing down, and I will fight this one. I'm not bothered about the site being built on, I just want them to finish what they started.”
Coun Parkinson said: “We have been pressuring the owners through the planning department because it is not satisfactory what they have done. It is not an issue we have let go.” Last week, the Lancashire Telegraph reported how residents were concerned kids were entering the site, owned by EW Cartons, and were using it as a playground.
Rishton councillor Ken Moss said: “We would rather not go down the legal route — it is time consuming and expensive for all concerned. They are a local company so we do not want to antagonise them.”
