ACCRINGTON Stanley are set to have a big screen installed at their ground after reaching their fundraising campaign target.
The club’s official supporters association launched its #upinlights campaign in November to raise £20,000 for the project.
On the final day of the campaign the target was surpassed and plans are now in place for the screen to be installed at the Wham Stadium later this year.
Peter Leatham, chairman of the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Club, said: “It was an ambitious target but we’ve had donations from all over the world towards the campaign.
“It’s great news for the football club in terms of spectator enjoyment and in terms of revenue.
“We should be able to set it up for the start of next season if not the end of this season.
“It’s a good news story for the people of Accrington and supporters of the club worldwide.
“It’s been a great effort by the Stanley family to make this happen.”
The free-standing screen will be in the area near the control box between the Whinney Hill away terrace and the away seating.
It will be used to show highlights, interviews, social media posts, and match and team information.
Donations have come from countries including Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Norway and the USA.
Money was also raised through a variety of auctions held by campaign organisers.
Prizes fans have bid on include the chance to join in first team training, the opportunity to join the directors on a matchday and a variety of signed club memorabilia.
Former cricketer and Stanley fan David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd signed for the club at the end of last year as part of the campaign said he was delighted to see the scheme has been a success.
The lifelong fan said: “I think it’s terrific news that they reached the target, it’s a big plus for the club and all its supporters.
“”It’ll be a great spectacle and improve the matchday experience.”
