HIGH school pupils got close to nature as they took to the River Wyre to study for their exams.

Albany Academy Year 11 students took part in a two-day geography field trip to Hothersall Lodge.

The purpose of the visit was for pupils to collect data ahead of the GCSE controlled assessment.

The pupils studied the River Wyre from its source downstream as far as St Michaels.

They noted the changes to the channel as a river moves downstream, including its width, depth, and velocity.

Forty-two GCSE geography students attended, aided by fantastic weather.

The pupils will now be required to spend some time during their lessons writing up their findings.

This work will contribute to 25 per cent of their GCSE geography grade.

Jane Staniforth, who organised the field trip said: “All our pupils worked very hard for the full two days.

“It was great to be outside seeing geography happening in the real world rather than in the classroom.”
