A 24-YEAR-OLD mum from Burnley slashed her arm before hanging herself, a coroner’s court heard.
Charlene Hosker died on December 29 last year after her mum, Ellen Nugent, found her in her house in Leyland Road.
Burnley Coroner’s Court heard Mrs Nugent heard screams of ‘please don’t do it’ coming from her daughter’s house, which was next door to hers, at around midnight.
In a police statement read out by coroner Richard Taylor she described how she had seen Charlene a few hours before when she had asked for money to go bowling and had borrowed some boots and hair straighteners.
Mr Taylor said: “The statement describes how at about midnight she heard shouting from next door of ‘please don’t do it’.
“It says that she knew that she was self-harming and that she ran to her house and up to her door.
“Mrs Nugent said that she could see that she had blood on her arms and that Charlene had told her not to come in. She called the emergency services but by the time the ambulance had come she had hanged herself upstairs.”

Mrs Nugent’s statement described how Charlene had been diagnosed with ADHD when she was very young and that she was on medication. She was 14 when she started self-harming. She also said that it became more significant when she was 16 years old.
Mr Taylor also read out a statement from pathologist Dr Walid Salman, who carried out the post-mortem examination at Royal Blackburn Hospital on December 31.
Dr Salman said that 48 cuts over her left forearm were found during the examination and that no natural cause of death was found. He said that the medical cause of death was hanging.
Dr Salman said that Charlene was twice the legal drink-driving limit but that the alcohol in her system did not directly contribute to her death. The inquest heard that no other drug was found in her system.
Mr Taylor recorded a verdict that Charlene took her own life.
