‘SICK’ bystanders filmed a brutal street fight in which an unconscious girl was repeatedly punched in the face and put the footage on the internet.

Community leaders have slammed those who shot the footage rather than intervene in the brawl in Duke Bar.

The two-minute film titled ‘Burnley Girl Fight’ on video sharing website YouTube has been watched 6,000 times and is accessed with the keywords fight, beat, punch, kill, kick, death, wrecked, drunk, and blood.

It has prompted detectives to launch an investigation. A girl has been arrested and released on bail in connection with the inquiry.

Burnley Council leader Gordon Birtwistle, said the film was ‘sick’.

He said: “One of the down-sides to the internet is that people are exposed to things like this.

“I hope that when the whole thing is sorted out, the perpetrator is locked up for a long time.”

“My view is that if they have got proof of who it is they should lock her up and throw away the key. We can’t allow this type of thing to go on.”

The clip shows two girls viciously fighting. It appears to be filmed by men who seemed to be enjoying the fight, judging by the comments they can be heard to make.

Seconds into the two-minute long clip, as the two girls are seen grappling by the side of the road, one of the men is heard to say “It’s been ages now.”

Then one of the girls, who is dressed in black, over-powers her rival, who is dressed in white, punching her several times in the face and forcing her back into a large puddle.

She can be heard screaming “look at my face” before landing a series of punches.

Then the woman lying on her back kicks her opponent in the head, appearing to knock her unconscious.

Onlookers are heard saying: “She’s booting her. She’s knocked out. She’s out cold,” as the girl in white kneels over her victim’s limp body and proceeds to land a succession of blows to her head.

Shortly after passing vehicles are heard beeping their horns and one witness is heard to say “She’s killing her”.

Two men appear and drag the girl in white away, but not before she fights her way free to kick her helpless victim in the head one more time as she lies blood-sodden and unconscious.

Police are trying to trace both girls. The injuries sustained by the girl knocked unconscious are not known.

Apparent acquaintances of the two girls have posted messages about the fight on the YouTube site in crude gangster-style language, with some claiming the ‘victim’ ‘deserved it’.

Duke Bar councillor Darren Reynolds said he was shocked by the brutality.

He said: “It is a reflection of the society we live in.

"I think this is an exceptional case that has taken place in the Duke Bar area.

"Generally there are kids that get into fights that don’t lead to anything other than a damaged ego, but this is awful.”

Fellow Duke Bar councillor Bill Bennett said such street violence stemmed from a binge-drinking culture.

He said: “I’m against any violence of this sort.

"In this day and age people don’t seem to be able to drink with any logic or common sense.

“We need to tighten up on discipline with a rod of iron, a firm hand or an iron glove.

"There are too many soft sentences and the fact that people are re-offending 18 or 19 times tells you there’s a problem.

"This person should be punished.”

A police spokesman confirmed a girl had been released on bail until August in connection with the incident.
