JUST being in the right place at the right time helped Burnley railway photographer Graham Roose to capture this stunning image of an iconic railway landmark.
The image of Ribblehead Viaduct had been in the 67-year-old’s mind’s eye for some time - but several weeks ago he was walking across the fells when all the elements came together for a memorable shot.
Judges in the Take A View Landscape Photographer of the Year competition selected his work as runner-up in the Network Rail sponsored Lines in the Landscape category.
Graham, of Lindsey Park, Worsthorne, said: “I had that picture in mind for years and as I started to walk across the moors, I got my chance.”
The famous North Yorkshire viaduct, part of the Settle and Carlisle Railway, was threatened with demolition in the 1980s.
A long-standing member of the Railway Correspondence and Travel Society, he also recently travelled with fellow rail photographers on an expedition to Patagonia.
He is hoping to attend a preview of winning entries at the National Theatre, before they go on display in the Lyttleton Foyer from November 12 to January 12.
The winning entry in his category was an early-morning picture of a train speeding through Holes Bay, Poole, Dorset
