ACCRINGTON’S newly refurbished market has been voted Britain’s best indoor market in a national competition.
The market hall was awarded the accolade at the 2011 National Association of British Market Authorities, Market of the Year Competition.
It comes after a £2million refurbishment of the Grade II listed building.
Coun Marlene Haworth, cabinet member for markets, said: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted for Accrington Market Hall to receive this top award.
“The market hall now looks fabulous with the refurbishment and it’s also a great shopping experience.”
Graham Wilson, chief executive of NABMA, said: “This year there was a record number of entries with almost 70 markets entering and the standard of entries was the highest ever in the competition.”
