A PROTEST against Blackburn’s Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant trialling the use of halal chicken passed without incident, police have said.
The St George’s Day ‘peaceful protest’ took place from 10am until noon outside the fast food giant’s Haslingden Road outlet.
Police said up to 27 people took part in the demonstration but no arrests were made.
According to police, the protest was organised by the English Defence League, although a similar event at a KFC in Preston was attributed to the Our England Today group.
A message on the EDL’s website on the use of halal food encourages ‘flash demos’ at venues taking part in the pilot.
According to KFC, its Accrington, Colne and Burnley restaurants have also switched to halal.
