Coventry 4, Preston 1
PRESTON keeper Andy Lonergan suffered a nightmare debut as Coventry dumped David Moyes' injury-plagued team out of the Worthington Cup.
Trainee Lonergan, who is just 16, conceded a hat-trick from John Aloisi and a fourth from John Eustace as the Sky Blues waltzed to a 7-2 aggregate win.
Preston's consolation came from Mark Rankine in the second half at Highfield Road.
Lonergan was a surprise inclusion in the side, but he was given a baptism of fire.
Aloisi gave Coventry the lead after just six minutes with a neat finish and they doubled that to put the tie beyond doubt with a second only twelve minute i compounded North End's misery with a third goal after 26 minutes.
Rankine pulled a goal back after the break. But any lingering hopes of a North End fightback were quickly quashed when Colin Murdock fouled Aloisi inside the box, and the Aussie striker got himself up off the deck to score from the spot and complete his hat-trick.
