SCHOOL REPORT: Motto - Achievement Through Caring and Partnership.
Our mission is to strive constantly to create, for our pupils, a caring environment in which high standards of academic achievement and growing social awareness, supported by a partnership between the school and the community, lead to responsible citizenship.
Barden High School is a small 11-16 boys comprehensive school with 355 pupils, excellent facilities and spacious accommodation. The school has a flourishing Community Association which allows us to offer our pupils exceptional sporting opportunities including the use of a floodlit all-weather pitch, a climbing wall and a very modern multi-gymnasium. It has superb facilities in other areas as well, including well-equipped workshops, up-to-date computer rooms, a new food technology area, excellent art rooms and a well-used library. Even though the intake is growing, Barden is still a small, caring school. As a school we are committed to the academic and social development of all our boys regardless of ability or background. Over the past few years virtually all boys have left with qualifications and there have been some outstanding results. In upper school we now have the most academically able groups of pupils for many years. The pastoral care of pupils is given a high profile and this starts before pupils arrive.
SCHOOL ROLL: The main intake of pupils is from the local community and the boys who come to Barden achieve their full potential and are very happy here.
STAR PUPILS: Television scriptwriter Paul Abbott has written many scripts including Cracker, Clocking Off and some episodes of Coronation Street; Shami Ahmed, founder of the Joe Bloggs empire; Craig Heap, captain of the Great Britain Gymnastic Team which competed in the 2000 Olympics; Mark Brown, who represented Great Britain in 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games (Paraplegic) and came fourth in the Marathon.
Our Year 8 Cricket team became the Lancashire Indoor Cricket Champions earlier this year, beating Lancaster Royal Grammar School.
SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT: Our young entrepreneurs have an excellent history in the Young Enterprise Competition, winning most of the prizes over the past 10 years. One of our outstanding art students, Ansar Ali, won a national competition when he designed and drew "A Car for the Future." His prize was a 19-seater minibus which all our pupils benefit from.
WHAT WOULD WE DO WITH £100,000 WINDFALL?: Bring our science rooms up to millennium standard and install lifts on our stairways to enable pupils with physical disabilities full access.
