RICHARD Chaplow was today the toast of Burnley after opening his England goalscoring account.
The Burnley midfielder was gutted at being named as a substitute for yesterday's U20 friendly clash with Holland.
But Chaplow, 19, turned the game on its head in the second half, rifling the only goal of the game with a blistering 25-yard drive just two minutes after making his introduction at Huddersfield Town's Galpharm Stadium.
"I'm still pinching myself really," admitted the Clarets ace. "It was always a dream to score for Burnley and it's an even bigger dream to score for England."
Chaplow is believed to be the first Burnley player to score for England at any level since former youth international Andy Kilner 20 years ago.
And Burnley boss Steve Cotterill added his own congratulations, insisting, "I'm absolutely delighted for Richard.
"It was a terrific finish and I'm sure everyone connected with the club is absolutely over the moon for him."
Elsewhere, Jamaican midfielder Micah Hyde featured in his country's 1-1 draw with Panama over the weekend.
However, Clarets goalkeeper Danny Coyne failed to make the bench for Wales 2-0 defeat to England at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, French winger Jean-Louis Valois has vowed to make the most of his short-term contract to earn a longer deal at Turf Moor.
The former Luton Town and Hearts winger, who played alongside Mo Camara at Lille earlier in his career, said: "I have signed here until January and then, who knows?
"Either I will succeed or move on again, but all I know is that I want to succeed at Burnley.
"I have battled for many years to play at a good level in England. It has been my ambition, so now I have to take my chance and prove myself.
"Burnley is a great old club with a nice stadium and it is is good to have Mo around to help me settle in."
