BURNLEY have rejected West Bromwich Albion's bid to sign FA Cup hero Richard Chaplow.
Clarets chairman Barry Kilby today revealed the two clubs remain "miles apart" in their respective valuations of the England U21 midfielder, who still has three-and-a-half-years left on his Turf Moor contract.
Albion lodged their cash-plus-player offer, thought to involve James O'Connor, earlier this week.
And Kilby confirmed: "I spoke to their chairman last night and again they are way off our valuation.
"The two clubs are miles apart on a player we rate very highly and West Brom will have to meet our expectations for him to go.
"I have to add that we don't want Richard to go, so the ball is back in their court now."
Burnley's stance is exactly the same as when Wigan Athletic blatantly tried to land Robbie Blake on the cheap just before Christmas.
And after Birmingham finally stumped up £1.25m for their captain and top scorer, the Clarets are adamant they will not sell off more of the family jewels unless cash-rich Premiership clubs are prepared to meet a strict asking price.
However, Baggies boss Bryan Robson still remains hopeful of landing Burnley's prized asset before the January transfer window closes in 10 days time.
Robson said: "I have left it with the two chairman now. All I will say is that I hope Richard is a West Bromwich Albion player by next week."
All the transfer talk has disrupted Burnley's preparations as they seek to follow up the magnificent midweek FA Cup win over Liverpool with another impressive result at Cardiff City tomorrow.
Clarets boss Steve Cotterill is well aware his side followed up a deserved 3-1 win over a full-strength Aston Villa side back in October with arguably their worst performance of the season in the ensuing 3-0 league defeat at QPR.
And Cotterill has already taken steps to ensure there will be no repeat at Ninian Park.
He revealed: "After the Liverpool game I wrote on the board our result against Aston Villa and the QPR result underneath.
"Then I put the Liverpool result and Cardiff with a question mark!
"We know we need to go there and make sure we start the game brightly, because if we don't, the same will happen again.
"It's important we apply ourselves in the right manner and keep a reality check.
"We're still in the FA Cup and we're 10th in the Championship table, but we haven't achieved anything yet.
"Until we do, we can't say whether it's going to be a good season, a great season or just another season."
Meanwhile, Ipswich are ready to admit defeat in their bid to land Burnley left back Mo Camara.
As revealed yesterday, Town boss Joe Royle claims to have made an enquiry for the Guinean, who remains in talks over a new Turf Moor contract.
And today Royle revealed: "I made a definite enquiry and followed it up with a bid, but that was turned down by Burnley.
"It is unlikely I will go in for Mo again, but you cannot rule out anything in football.''
