MOTORISTS stopping to look at an 18ft snowman in Rossendale are being blamed for a series of crashes on the adjacent road.
Rossendale firefighter Jan Czugalinski wowed Cloughfold residents with the giant snowman which towered over Bacup Road.
But since then, a series of minor crashes have taken place due to motorists braking sharply to take in the spectacle, according to firefighters.
Rossendale police have urged drivers to take extra care on the road.
A spokesman said: “Common sense must be used on the icy roads throughout Rossendale.
“In these conditions, harsh breaking and accelerating will cause the car to skid.”
Jan used the popularity of the snowman to help raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance.
And over the course of three days the snowman, known as Megaman, raised £1,500 for the charity.
