A COMPUTER programme that protects children against paedophiles scouring the internet has been developed by an East Lancashire company.

Available from internet service provider Supanet, Time Technology Park, Blackburn Road, Simonstone, the e-safe@home package provides a protective barrier for youngsters using the internet.

Already at use in schools, the software is now available for domestic use and allows parents to monitor their children’s internet usage.

And the company claims it will protect against grooming, paedophiles, internet bullying, pornography and other potentially negative sites.

Steve Smart, managing director at Supanet, said: “Whilst the internet is a great resource, there is a wealth of indecent content all too readily available for children to accidentally access.

“We want to assist families to ensure a safe environment for users without affecting their online experience.

“That is why we have joined with e-safe education, as we believe they offer the most comprehensive software on the market.

“With the web now integrated into their everyday life, it is not uncommon for children to be more computer savvy than their parents which is why it is important that we offer support and assistance to parents in correctly using the service.”
