“Severe delays” have been reported on the M6 southbound, after a vehicle fire.

One lane is closed and traffic is building after a vehicle fire between junction 33 and junction 32.

There are severe delays of 45 minutes and increasing.

The fire service was in attendance for an hour.

A spokesperson for AA Traffic and Travel said: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to vehicle fire on M6 Southbound between junction 33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstang) and junction 32 M55 (Broughton Interchange).

 

 

“Severe delays of 19 minutes and delays increasing on M6 Southbound in Lancashire. Average speed ten mph.”

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "One lane is closed on the M6 southbound in Lancashire between junction J33 and J32 ) due to a car fire.

"The vehicle has been extinguished and recovery has been arranged. There's a 45-minute delay on approach with seven miles of congestion. Allow extra journey time."

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At 11.24am on September 29, three fire engines from Lancaster, Preston and Fulwood attended a vehicle fire between M6 South Lancaster Services and Junction 32 of the M6.

"Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel, a dry powder extinguisher and a dammit mat to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for one hour."
