Videos and images, provided by Tina Nelson, show a van well alight, on Chapel Street.
Emergency services descended on the area, at around 11.20am, and there were also reports of explosions, according to residents.
Police said a generator and fuel cans had combusted due to heat build-up in the rear of the van, caused by the warm weather.
The window of a nearby property was sightly damaged due to the extreme heat. No injuries were reported.
One person said: “There were lots of smoke flames and small explosions. It was very frightening, me and my dog were very scared indoors.”
