The carriageway of a major road will be closed from 10pm tonight after a vehicle fire earlier today.
Emergency services were called at around 2pm following reports of a blaze.
The road was closed in a southbound direction from the M65 junction to the junction with the A680 at Rising Bridge.
The A56 has partially reopened with lane one and two closed at the A680 due to damage to the surface.
