All lanes have reopened on the M6 after a crash caused rush-hour chaos this evening.

Police were called at around 4.15pm to reports of a crash at J31 of the motorway near Preston.

Officers confirmed there were no injuries in the two-vehicle crash, with damage reported to both vehicles.

National Highways confirmed paramedics also attended the scene the incident was 'nothing serious.'

Queues formed all the way back to J27 of the M6 at Leyland and to J8 of the M61 near Chorley as a result of the crash.

There were also queues entering the M55, which starts at J32 of the M6.

Traffic was stationary from around the time of the crash until shortly before 6.30pm when National Highways confirmed the three lanes had reopened.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "All lanes have now reopened on the M6 in Lancashire northbound within J31 near Preston following a collision.

"Long delays remain on approach. Please allow extra time for your journey."
