The long-awaited, highly anticipated opening of a new B&M store took place in Blackburn over the weekend, creating 40 jobs for people in the area.

At 8am on Saturday (March 23), the new store was opened in The Mall, King William Street, in the unit formerly occupied by Wilko.

The discount retailer has taken possession of the 15,877 sqft. unit and has undergone a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme.

Customers heading to the new store can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries including a range of food, drink and pet food.

There is also a selection of quality health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts and plenty more.

Staff at the new store were asked to nominate a local charity they think deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community, and they chose the team from Blackburn Foodbank charity to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store.

Blackburn Foodbank has a goal for a future without the need for food banks. It provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and staff there support local people who are referred to them in crisis.

The food bank wants to bring together the experiences of the community to challenge the structural issues that lock people in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

It strives to ensure that every experience with the foodbank is an easy and positive one.

In addition to opening the store, the team at Blackburn Foodbank will also receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue doing the great work they do.

The new B&M store manager, said: “It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors. The feedback so far has been fantastic.

“A big thank you to the team at Blackburn Foodbank who helped us open the store, we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do.”
