Here is the first look inside the new Saffron Street restaurant which is due to open in Blackburn.

The signage for the restaurant went up in March and work has continued to renovate the interior and exterior.

The restaurant was formerly the O'Neill's bar in King William Street and has seating on the ground and first floors.

Saffron Street first opened in Ilford followed by Leicester. Blackburn is the third to site to open and is set to be the largest with over 130 seats set over two floors.

This week, the final touches were being made to the interior which celebrates traditional Indian and South Asian architecture with a modern twist.

As well as a family seating area, designers have been keen to take advantage of the natural light and much of the seating is set against the large window spaces overlooking King William Street.

Owners said they only used local contractors to complete the renovations which has seen a complete overhaul of the building.

The menu features a range of signature dishes but it is most famous for its ‘Thaalis’. These are sharing platters which include a wide variety of starters, main meals and a dessert dishes.

The Indian Street Food concept has proved to be increasingly popular in the past decade with restaurants and takeaways keen to celebrate ‘authentic' Indian food with British diners.

Toro’s Steakhouse, which launched earlier this week is based just opposite the location and the Heavenly Dessert parlour is also close by.

Saffron Street posted: “Not yet open to the public, our team has been working hard over the past few months to bring our unique style and taste into the heart of the town.

“You can expect the same great flavours as at Gants Hill and Leicester, with a friendly new team to guide you along your culinary journey.”

It adds: “From a family room for intimate dining with those closest to you, to booth areas for sharing dishes among friends, we know you’ll feel right at home here.”

Saffron Street is hoping to officially open to the public next Friday (May 12).
