FIRE crews spent a night putting out a wind turbine fire.
Two fire engines and a 4×4 vehicle from Bacup, Blackburn and Darwen, along with the air support unit, attended a fire involving a wind turbine approx 80m in height on Haslingden Old Road in Oswaldtwistle at 12am last night.
The nacelle at the top of the structure was alight and falling debris caused a small fire on the ground. Firefighters worked with the site owner and Electricity North West to isolate the power and put a cordon in place to secure the area and allow the fire to burn out safely.
Crews returned to inspect the site this morning along with site engineers to ensure there was no further risk of fire.
The wind turbine is controlled in Germany, therefore a call was made to engineers there to help stop the wind turbine.
