IF you’re feeling a little sluggish after the Christmas festivities then why not start the New Year the healthy way by tackling a 10k race.

The East Lancashire Hospice 10K, which is viewed as the first race of the season by many running clubs, will be held on January 19.

Starting on Alan Ramsbottom Way in Great Harwood, the race will follow the cycle tracks and the old railway, up to Cutwood Park in Rishton and back along the canal tow path.

Nick Gaskell, from Whalley, said: “My friend Chris Knagg and I started the 10k race in 2012. This is the seventh annual event and all the money goes to the hospice.

“There is also a 2k race for those who feel that the 10k is a bit too far for them – it’s perfect for kids too.”

It has raised £84,947.70 for the hospice in the last six years and 2020’s race is expected to attract hundreds of people of all ages.

Entry is £12 with sponsorship, or £20 for runners who wish to register with a donation. Registration will start at 9.30am for the race at 11am. For more info visit eastlancshospice.org.uk
